I was never very close with my father.  In fact, we’ve gone years without speaking and I really don’t recall a time I celebrated Father’s Day.  Now that I have my own child, it gives Father’s Day an entirely new meaning for me. It’s not a day that I will overlook anymore.  It’s also a day that I started stressing out about months ago.

It’s our first one.  It’s special.  It has to be perfect.

So I set forth to find the perfect Father’s Day gift.

Too bad I’m impatient.  About a month after our daughter was born, I snagged an awesome deal on a custom canvas.  Three in fact.  I thought “one could be a birthday present, the other for Father’s Day”. But I couldn’t do it, I was too excited.  Approximately 10 minutes after they arrived they were open and being displayed in our living room. (If you’re curious about what they look like, you can check them out here.)

So much for that.

So I’ve scoured everywhere to try and find the perfect Father’s Day gift since then.  And you know what?  I’m never going to find it.  Because it’s been right in front of me all along.

The perfect Father’s Day gift, at least for us, is a Father’s Day where we spend time together as a family.  He might still get breakfast in bed, but all he wants is his family.

Makes sense.

Your turn.  What is your perfect Father’s Day gift?
